Corruption could worsen the public health crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, anti-graft group Transparency International said Thursday.
The warning came with the Berlin-based advocacy group’s release of its latest edition of its Corruption Perceptions Index, an annual survey meant to capture the perceived level of corruption within countries. Companies use the index to assess the risks of doing business in certain jurisdictions.
The U.S. took another hit in the group’s rankings, following a trend that began after the start of the Trump administration, with the country’s index score dropping from 69 to 67. The score is the lowest since 2012, when Transparency International revamped its scoring methodology.
