Spain: Spanish court approves extradition of former chairman of Mexico’s AHMSA

Spain’s high court said on Friday it had rejected an appeal lodged by the former chairman of Mexican steel mill Altos Hornos de Mexico and ordered his extradition to his home country where he faces charges of corruption.

The Spanish court ruled that the accusations Alonso Ancira faces in Mexico are also punished in Spain and rejected his claim that he was the victim of political persecution.

Ancira was detained in Spain in 2019 during a push by the Mexican government to investigate historical allegations of corruption within Mexican state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos.
