Philippines: NBI’s legal assistance chief arrested for ‘accepting’ bribes from members of ‘pastillas’ scheme

A division head of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was arrested by his colleagues on Monday night for allegedly accepting bribes from some individuals tagged in the ‘pastillas scheme,’ an official disclosed on Tuesday.

The official was identified as Atty. Joshua Capiral, NBI’s head of legal assistance division, during a Senate hearing on the bribery scheme within the Bureau of Immigration (BI), which allows Chinese nationals to enter the country seamlessly.

“Vinerify ko po ang information na iyan sa isang opisyal ng legal service namin at kinonfirm po na na-entrap po si Atty. Joshua Capiral,” said Atty. Janet Francisco, chief of the NBI’s anti-human trafficking division.
