Malaysia: Ex-ministry officer charged with corruption involving RM100k

A former senior assistant secretary to a ministry was charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of receiving RM100,000 in bribes linked to the issuance of tenders for the supply and delivery of bio-fertilisers to a company.

Shahrulzaman Jaafar, 43, claimed trial to both charges. He was formerly with the agriculture and food industries ministry.

He was also charged for three separate offences at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last week. The first for soliciting RM2 million in bribes and the other two for receiving a total of RM125,000 in cash. The offences were also linked to tenders for the supply and delivery of bio-fertilisers to three separate companies.
