Malaysia: Ex-general manager of research institute remanded over bribes

A former general manager of a research institute has been arrested on suspicion of receiving bribes totalling RM100,000 involving the purchase of a land.

The suspect, a professor, has been remanded for six days until Nov 19.

The remand application which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission submitted was approved by magistrate Syajaratudur Abd Rahman on Saturday (Nov 14).

Sources said the 54-year-old suspect was arrested at the Selangor MACC office at around 6pm on Friday (Nov 13) when he was summoned to the office.

It is learnt that he allegedly demanded and received bribes for consultation service for the purchase of the plot of land.
