Ireland has been rated as one of the most progressive countries in the world in transitioning towards an equitable, fair and sustainable society, according to a new international study.
The Transitions Performance Index (TPI), published by the European Commission, ranks Ireland as the third-best country in the EU and the fifth-best in the world in creating conditions for a sustainable future.
Switzerland topped the index followed by Denmark and the Netherlands with the UK in the fourth position.
The index assessed over 70 countries around the world including all 27 EU member states on economic, social, environmental and governance performances.
The TPI report showed Ireland recorded one of the most improved overall scores of any country since 2010 when it was ranked 11th globally.
