Europe: Spying case lands Iberdrola CEO in top Spanish court

CEO of construction company Iberdrola, Ignacio Sanchez Galan, appeared in Spain’s high court on account of a 18-year-old spying case against him. Galan is being investigated for bribery, breach of privacy, and fraud.

The case relates to an incident in 2009 involving former police head, Jose Manuel Villarejo, who Galan allegedly hired with the intention of spying on Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez during a time when Perez was involved with construction competitor ACS.

Iberdrola has conducted three internal investigations and has asserted that it has not found any wrongdoing.
