statesman.com on December 21, 2011 reported that a former El Paso County judge is free on $50,000 bond after spending six days in jail on federal corruption charges. Anthony Cobos was released Wednesday afternoon after a federal magistrate in El Paso set bond. An indictment accuses the former county judge of receiving bribes and campaign contributions in exchange for his influence in refinancing $40 million of the county's debt and replacing the county's financial advisor. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
