A former top aide to ex-Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson has been released from probation. Brett Pfeffer testified against Jefferson during Jefferson's corruption trial in 2009. Pfeffer received an eight-year sentence for his own guilty plea to a bribery charge – but that was cut to three years after he testified. The Times-Picayune said U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III in Virginia ruled that Pfeffer could quit reporting to a probation officer.
