abclocal.go.com on December 13, 2011 reported that a judge has sentenced a retired Army major to two years in federal prison for laundering $400,000 in property received from a military contractor while in Kuwait during the Iraq war. The Justice Department said 45-year-old Charles Joseph Bowie Jr. of Georgetown, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday in San Antonio. He had pleaded guilty May 11 to the charge related to taking payoffs for a bottled water contract. Prosecutors say Bowie was directed to accept four $100,000 payments by former Army Maj. John Cockerham.
