A construction company supervisor who extorted kickbacks and gave an employee the go-ahead to assault someone critical of his work at Joint Base-McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst was sentenced Wednesday to 33 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
Richard Cottone, 40, of Windsor, Pennsylvania, demanded kickbacks from employees’ weekly paychecks at the base between November 2009 and September 2010 while working as a supervisor at his father-in-law’s business, Sands Mechanical Inc. of Bristol, Pennsylvania, federal prosecutors said.
Cottone pleaded guilty in 2012 to a conspiracy charge in the kickback scheme. His father-in-law, Leonard Santos, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in April 2014 and is awaiting sentencing.
