Kanchanaburi’s immigration chief says no officials in the province had received money from human trafficking gangs after fresh allegations were made by an arrested Myanmar trafficker of corruption and bribery.
Pol Col Weerayot Karunyathorn said about 700 Myanmar people entered and left Thailand via the Ban Pu Nam Ron-Htee Ki border checkpoint in tambon Ban Kao of Muang district every day. An average of 160 Myanmar nationals did not return to their country after entry permission was granted.
He said officials had rejected entry for Myanmar people wanting to travel to Thailand using a border pass but were suspected of intending to illegally work in the kingdom.
