The recent controversial deportation of 45 R.O.C. citizens involved in telecommunications fraud from Kenya to China has sparked public anger in Taiwan over Beijing’s unilateral decision, despite Taipei’s objections.
Some have speculated that such an unfriendly move on China’s part could mean a further deterioration of cross-strait relations before a new Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government, which has long been considered “anti-China,” takes power next month.
Others, however, focus on the ongoing debate about whether Chinese’s seemingly barbarous move was legitimate by arguing which side of the Taiwan Strait has jurisdiction over the case.
