Changhua prosecutors yesterday appealed a ruling by the Changhua District Court ordering the release a township mayor who was arrested for allegedly taking money from a contractor on Friday.
Fangyuan Township Mayor Lin Ching-bin, a member of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), was allegedly caught by investigators accepting NT$450,000 (US$15,000) in a envelope from a middleman named Chen Wu-shiung and Chen’s son, Chen Shang-yuan in his car.
Investigators said they recorded the exchange, and prosecutors said the money came from a county contractor surnamed Hsieh.
The court yesterday morning agreed to prosecutors’ application to detain the two Chens, but released Lin on NT$600,000 bail.
