South Africa: Accused businessman's bail rejected
The R1 million bail of a businessman accused of defrauding the KwaZulu-Natal education department was cancelled on Tuesday. Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge Gregory Kruger ordered that Jabulani Zakhele Mabaso be taken into custody. He failed to appear in court on March 5 for the start of trial. Mabaso is accused of defrauding the department of R200 million by inflated invoices. His co-accused Pam Bosman-Zulu, the department's former chief financial officer, allegedly authorised the inflated payments in return for kickbacks.
