One of Singapore’s most wanted fugitives has surrendered in Bangkok after being on the run since 1979.
Phey Yew Kok, a former Member of Parliament and chairman of the National Trades Union Congress, appeared in court yesterday in Singapore to face six charges brought to him 36 years ago.
Phey, now 81, was once a household name in Singapore for being one of the highest-level government officials brought down by the authority’s anti-corruption drive in the 1970s.
