The Accountability Court-I, headed by Arshad Noor Khan, sentenced a former public servant and his brother to 10 years’ imprisonment in a corruption case on Thursday. Nazir Ahmed Soomro, a former director Technical-I, Public Health Engineering Department, Sindh, was held on corruption charges. He was alleged to have made money disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income during his tenure as public servant while his brother Waheed Murad Soomro was using his position for purchasing properties. The presiding officer pronounced the verdict after hearing final arguments from both sides.A fine of Rs5 million each was also imposed and, in case of non-payment, the convicts would have to suffer another two years in prison. The court ordered the freezing of bank accounts and the confiscation of properties of the two brothers, and also declared them disqualified for 10 years for any public office.
