The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission has arrested ex-minister excise and taxation and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Laiquat Shabab over his alleged involvement in minting illegal money during the previous provincial government. The ex-minister allegedly made millions of rupees from corruption and kickbacks while causing heavy loses to the national exchequer.
However, when the attempts of arresting the ex-minister persisted, he contacted the Peshawar High Court through a letter on May 6. He had maintained in the letter that the Ehtesab Commission had sent him a notice requesting to record his statement in an investigation against some corrupt officers of the Excise Department.
He had alleged in his letter to the court that he went to the Ehtesab Commission Office to record his statement but instead he was handed over a pro forma asking him to provide details about his assets.
