In a major crackdown action, Nepal’s anti-graft body Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested 18 top government officials over corruption charges, the body said Wednesday.
The CIAA arrested nine top officials, including managing director, of Nepali Electricity (NEA) Authority, an apex body that works in the electricity sector. Those officials have been accused of involving in the corruption while purchasing transformers.
“The CIAA has taken all of them under its control after the initial findings corroborated their involvement in the millions of rupees of scam while purchasing transformers,” CIAA Spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota told the media after their arrest.
