The National Police detective corps (Bareskrim) have investigated the possible involvement of the suppliers of uninterruptable power supply (UPS) machines in a graft case relating to the machines’ being placed in a number of schools at the expense of the Jakarta city administration.
“We are investigating the vendors. If there are new suspects, we will make announcement,” said deputy director of the Corruption Division at the National Police detective corps Sr. Comr. Erwanto Kurniadi as reported by tribunnews.com on Thursday.
The police have named two suspects in the UPS case – Alex Usman, an official at the West Jakarta Education Office, and Zaenal Soleman, an official at the Central Jakarta Education Office. The police accuse Alex and Zainal of abusing their power to benefit themselves and others, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
