The Semarang Corruption Court has sentenced House of Representatives deputy speaker and senior National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Taufik Kurniawan to six years in prison for bribery in a case connected to special allocation funds (DAK) for Kebumen and Purbalingga regencies. The court also stripped him of his political rights for three years, starting with his release from prison.
The judges also sentenced him to a Rp 200 million (US$14,347) fine. If he fails to pay the fine, four months will be added to his prison term.
The court has found Taufik guilty of violating Article 12a of Law No. 31/1999 on corruption for embezzling Rp 3.65 billion (US$261,750) from the revised 2016 national budget and Rp 1.2 billion from the allocation funds from the revised 2017 national budget.
