A special anti-corruption court on Friday sent former IAS officer and ex-chairman of Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA), Sanjay Gupta, and its former senior manager Radhesh Bhatt on four-day remand to CID (crime) in connection with the Rs 113 crore alleged scam.
Additional sessions judge N G Dave granted the four-day remand after the probe agency asked for 14-day custodial interrogation of the two. The CID (crime) wanted to know where the accused persons have parked the money, which also includes Rs 60 crore obtained from suppliers towards bribe as they allegedly used to charge commission up to 30%.
The CID (crime) has charged them with corruption. They allegedly raised false invoices without getting any supplies for filling up the land at Motera for casting yard and depot. A technical audit revealed that against MEGA’s claims of 20.67 lakh sq m land filling worth Rs 194.56 crore, work was done over only 9.42 lakh sq m area. Bogus bills for land filling work over 11.24 lakh sq m were allegedly cleared. The value of this material, according to the prescribed rates, comes to Rs 113.22 crore.
