A former local university president was sentenced to 11 years in prison for taking 1.13 million yuan (US$184,416) in bribes, the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court said yesterday.
Xu Xiaoming, 56, the former president of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, was also fined 300,000 yuan and his illegal income seized.
Prosecutors said Xu took bribes between 2003 to 2011 when he was the vice-president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, chairman of four companies that were run by the university, and president of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
