Belarus: Air Force ex-commander awarded 9 years sentence over bribery
A court in Minsk found former commander of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defence Igor Azarenok guilty of large-scale bribery and sentenced him on 12 December to 9 years in a high-security penal colony and ordered the confiscation of Azarenok’s assets. Moreover, the court stripped Azarenok of the rank of General- Major and banned him from public office for 5 years. Russian citizen Andrei Mashkautsan, who was tried together with Azarenok, has been found guilty of aiding and abetting corruption and sentenced to 6 years in jail and confiscation of property.
