Federal Police have raided properties as part of an investigation into a construction union official suspected of being bribed by Chinese businesses allegedly involved in large-scale money laundering.
The Chinese firms targeted in the raids are also allegedly employing foreign workers on substandard pay and conditions.
NSW police and building industry sources said the raids had uncovered evidence that the businesses were involved in large-scale money laundering to facilitate bribery and to pay Chinese plasterers off the books, avoiding tax and workers’ entitlements.
